God Gives the Power to do Good Works – J. D. Greear

As a child of God, you are chosen—according to the purpose of God, by the power of God, for the glory of God.

And that is the greatest, most empowering, most life-giving truth in the universe.

Ephesians 2:10 says that “we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (ESV).

God predestined that your life would be filled with good works, to the praise of his glory. That means that the burden of “fixing” your life is not on you. God has already decreed and supplied the power for it!

Many people feel so defeated, thinking they have to summon the will to overcome a particular sin or heal their marriage or be a bold witness for the gospel.

But that’s the wrong picture of the Christian life. God has already provided the power for you to do the good works he planned for you.

You can be confident in his plan to use you, because Jesus said that’s why he chose you: “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you” (John 15:16).

The Bible teaches that you are chosen, not to unravel the mysteries of how God has worked in your past but to give you confidence of what God wants to do in your future.

When you think you’ve failed miserably as a Christian—and you will sometimes—you can have the strength to get up. Proverbs 24:16 says, “The righteous falls seven times and rises again.”

If you are discouraged by how much you fall, remember that the righteous person shows their righteousness not by never falling but by getting back up.

Falling just demonstrates that you are not perfect. Getting back up when you fall demonstrates that you believe the gospel.

The Awesome Power Of Prayer

Dr. Mark, was a famous oncologist. One day he flew to an important conference in another city, where he was to be awarded a medical prize.

However, an hour after take-off, there was an emergency landing at the nearest airport. The doctor rented a car and went to the conference. Shortly after he drove out, the weather turned bad and a bad storm rolled in.

Due to heavy rain, the Internet disappeared in the navigator, it turned the wrong way and got lost. After two hours of driving, he realized he was lost. He was hungry and tired as hell so he decided to find somewhere to crash.

Finally he came across a tiny house. Desperate, he got out of the car and knocked on the door. A woman opened the door. He explained himself and asked her to use the phone.

The woman told him that she did not have a phone, but he could come in and wait until the weather improved. The hungry, wet and tired doctor accepted her offer and entered.

The woman served him hot tea and told him that she was going to pray. Dr. Mark smiled and said that he only believes in hard work. Sitting at a table sipping tea, the doctor watched the woman in the dim candlelight as she prayed beside the crib.

The doctor understood that the woman needed help, so when she finished praying, he asked her:- What exactly do you want from God? Do you think God will ever hear your prayers?

The woman smiled sadly and said:- The child in the crib is my son, who suffers from a rare type of cancer and there is only one doctor, his name is Mark, who can cure him, but I don’t have money to afford him, besides that Dr. Mark lives in another city.

God still hasn’t answered my prayer but i know he will.. and nothings gonna break my faith. Shocked and lost for speech Dr. Mark just burst into tears.

He whispered:- God is great…He remembered everything that happened to him today: a malfunction in the plane, the torrential rain that caused him to go astray; and all this happened because God not only answered her prayer, but also gave him a chance to exit the material world and made possible to help the poor unfortunate people who have nothing but prayer…

The Power Of The Bended Knee!

“The Power of the Bended Knee”

Birds go to sleep on their perches, but they never fall off. This is because of the tendons in the bird’s legs. They are so constructed that when the leg is bent at the knee the claws contract and grip like a steel trap.

The claws refuse to let go until the knees are unbent again. The bended knee gives the bird the ability to hold on to his perch so tightly. Isn’t this also the secret of the holding power of the Christian?

Daniel found this to be true. Surrounded by a pagan environment, tempted to compromise with evil, urged to weaken his grip on God, he refused to let go. He held firm when others faltered because he was a man of prayer. He knew the power of the bended knee.

From sleeping birds we can learn the secret of holding things which are most precious to us- honesty, purity, thoughtfulness, honor and character. That secret is the knee bent in prayer, seeking to get a firmer grip on those values, which make life worth living.

When we hold on firmly to God in prayer, we can rest assured he will hold on tightly to us.
